Law Insider sells a public contract database with a Word redline on top. The database overlaps the SEC clause file. The Word redline, the playbooks, and the firm's own paper do not.
Elise can sell the SEC precedent this month: a typed clause, the parties, the accession, and a cited answer that also knows the proxy and the compensation consultant. Law Insider does not join the clause to the person graph. The product they will feel in a demo, and we do not have, is the redline inside Word and a playbook that writes the change. That is a layer on clauses we already typed. The non-US public contracts are a later crawl. The firm's private repository stays theirs.
| Feature | Law Insider | Kscope | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Public contracts | The homepage says 5.3 million contracts. The pricing FAQ says 20 million plus. Both say the set runs past SEC filings, across 100+ jurisdictions and 40+ languages, about 40 years, updated daily. | SEC EX-2.1 and EX-10. The structured table is 462,524 material contracts and 6,209 merger agreements, 2016 through 2026. The clause index runs 1994 through 2026. SEDAR filings are supplied and are not in this clause index. Image-only exhibits are still the OCR hole. | Partial |
| Clauses | 200 million plus. The homepage and the pricing page agree on this number. | 30,825,922 typed clauses, verified 2026-10-02, each one embedded. Median coverage is about 99 percent of the text of each agreement. | Partial |
| Clause typing | Search by contract type, then open the clause. No published taxonomy size. | 444 leaf types in 10 agreement families, aligned to CUAD. Each clause carries risk, favorability, and whether it survives termination. Corrected labels and exact character offsets are live on merger agreements, 2.1 million clauses. Credit, employment, and commercial still carry the older labels. | Ahead |
| Parties and the filing | Filter by company, then open the agreement. | Parties are rows on the agreement, resolved to the same company and person ids as the proxy, the Form 4, and the ADV. Every clause carries CIK, accession, exhibit filename, form, filing date, and SIC. | Ahead |
| Open at the clause | Open the source agreement and read the clause in context. | Merger clauses carry the exhibit filename and exact character offsets, so a screen can highlight the span. Other agreement types do not have those offsets yet. | Partial |
| Filters | Contract type, industry, governing law, company, and date. | Agreement type, clause type, risk, CIK, SIC, filing date, and phrase. Governing law comes back as a clause. It is not one field on the agreement. | Match |

|---|---|---|---|
| Keyword and phrase | Search the clause text, then narrow with the filters. | Phrase search on the clause text. The analyzer keeps section signs and section numbers. | Match |
| Plain English | An assistant over the database and over the document that is open. | Semantic search on the clause text. A question with none of the clause's words still returns the clause. Legal Chat answers in citations, including an industry screen, a predecessor CIK, and the compensation consultant. | Match |
| A clause drafted from precedent | Draft and rewrite clauses grounded in the contract database, in the browser and in Word. | Legal Chat can answer from the clause file and cite the exhibit. It does not insert the language into a Word document. | Partial |

|---|---|---|---|
| Word, redline, and compare | SimpleAI writes tracked changes into the Word file, ranks the issues, compares versions, and flags silent edits. The browser does the same review. | No Word add-in. Legal Chat is an API. Console is the web front end. | Gap |
| Playbooks | Standard playbooks, including oneNDA, oneDPA, oneSaaS, MSA, and NDA. A November 2025 note describes 50 or more. A team can write its own rules, as identify, check, and act, and choose redline or flag. Enterprise adds a legal engineer. | Not shipped. Typed clauses and favorability are the raw material for a playbook. They are not one. | Gap |
| Similarity next to the suggestion | A suggested rewrite shows a similarity score against real clauses in their database. | Semantic search ranks clauses. That rank is not packaged beside a redline. | Gap |
| Feature | Law Insider | Kscope | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private repository | Enterprise adds an AI repository, custom workflows, and CRM, eSign, and CMS integrations. Customer documents are not used for training. SOC 2 Type II and GDPR. | We do not hold the firm's own signed files. | Beside |
| Price | Pricing page on 2026-10-08: SimpleAI is a 7-day trial, then $1,790 per user per year. Enterprise is contact-sales. A limited search of the database stays free. | The clause file and the chat exist. A legal seat price is not set. | Ahead |
Ahead The feature is data we already hold, in a form a law firm can use.
Match Both products do this.
Partial We have the SEC half, or the raw material, and not the finished surface.
Gap They ship it. We do not.
Beside Their enterprise workspace runs on the customer's own contracts. That file is not ours to rebuild.
