CB Insights, feature by feature.

CB Insights is a private-company database with predictive scores, market maps, and a book of deals investors and startups send in. The private graph was recounted on 2026-10-09. Their profile count, the contributed deal, and the scores are the check.

All companies · The opportunities · Law Insider · Candid · BamSEC · WhaleWisdom · Tracxn. CB Insights stays scored now on the full list.

The row stays now. Operating companies are 123,381, of which 82,476 are private. Their pages put the universe at 10 million or 12 million, and the market count at 1,500, 1,600, or 1,700, depending on the page. The company table's 1,416,991 rows are a different cut, full of shells and vehicles. Parsed funding is 357,023 deals on 135,173 companies. Form D is 775,619 filings and 365,054 issuers. Those two cuts overlap, so they stay separate. They publish no deal count to set beside either figure, and the April 2026 lead rests on deals investors and startups send them. Mergers are 175,614 deals. Investors are 106,642. Persons are 3,876,749, on 488,960 companies. Mosaic, Exit Probability, Commercial Maturity, and Funding Window are models. A deal, a revenue figure, a cap table, a customer interview, or a satisfaction score that exists only because someone sent it stays theirs.

ProfilesTheir pages do not agree. ChatCBI and the pricing page say 10 million companies and 1,500 markets, and the pricing page adds 1 billion data points. Startup Access says 12 million companies, 1 billion data points, and 1 trillion connections.Recounted 2026-10-09. 123,381 operating companies, of which 82,476 are private and 40,905 are public filers. The company table holds 1,416,991 rows. That total is a different cut: about 497,000 are SEC shells, 374,000 are unknown, and 196,000 are vehicles. Their 10 to 12 million reads like every tracked entity. Each cut is stated on its own.Partial
Funding roundsOn April 22, 2026 they said they lead in global equity deals for rounds from 2018 on, fueled by non-public deal data sourced from investors and startups, and that a Mag 7 analysis showed 48% deeper coverage. They publish no stock count of deals. A September 9, 2026 note says equity funding deals in the US and globally from 2010 are in the Nasdaq Data Link feeds.Recounted 2026-10-09. 357,023 parsed funding deals, on 135,173 companies. The filed US slice is 775,619 Form D filings and 365,054 issuers. Those two cuts overlap, so they stay separate. A round that hits a filing, a press hit, or the crawl is on the company id. Their leadership claim is theirs, and this page does not verify it.Partial
Mergers and IPOsThe financial-transactions feed includes mergers, acquisitions, and IPOs, with deal value, date, and a source link. The Q2 2026 venture report counts 2,447 M&A exits and 119 IPOs in that quarter. That is one quarter's flow. They do not publish a stock count of deals.175,614 merger deals and 210,971 companies in at least one, recounted 2026-10-09. 240,859 rows tie a deal to the SEC filing. A disclosed deal is in the graph. A deal that exists only because a party sent it to them stays theirs.Partial
InvestorsInvestors sit on the deal, with lead, follow-on, and new marked. The Q2 2026 report asks an investor to update their own profile when something is missing. They do not publish an investor count on the pages read.106,642 investor profiles, recounted 2026-10-09. A profile an investor types only into their form stays theirs.Partial
MarketsMarket counts conflict across the same site: 1,500 on ChatCBI and the pricing page, 1,600 on the product chrome, and 1,700 on the signup page. Rankings compare entrants. The map and the written sector note are the research product.A sector label on the crawl is a model. Their market names, and the text of a map, stay their product.Partial

The scores

FeatureCB InsightsKscope
MosaicA health score from 0 to 1,000. The whitepaper weights Growth Momentum at 50%, Financial Strength at 40%, Industry Health at 5%, and Management Strength at 5%. The same paper's FAQ gives Market 10% and caps Management at 10% when a component is missing. The API names Market, Momentum, Money, and Management. Momentum uses social, news sentiment, mobile and web traffic, hiring, and customer and partner signings. Their study of more than 150,000 companies says the top 30 scores had a 23.3% unicorn rate against a 4.9% median for 24 venture firms, which they call 4.7 times. That study is theirs.A score trained on filings, news, and the crawl is our score. Mobile and web traffic is an input the whitepaper names and does not source. Their weights and their unicorn study stay their paper.Partial
Exit ProbabilityChance of an IPO or an acquisition within two years, scored daily. The support page says it learns from 70 or more data points and covers 450,000 or more private companies. The predictive-data page says 65 billion data points across 480,000 or more companies. Those two descriptions do not agree.Valuation, funding, patents, acquisitions, management, and investor track records are on the graph where a filing or the crawl holds them. The probability is a model. Their coverage figures stay their claim.Partial
Commercial MaturityReadiness to compete for customers or to serve as a partner. The predictive-data page says daily scoring across 180,000 or more companies.A stage label on the disclosed book is a model.Partial
Funding WindowShipped April 22, 2026. A prediction of when a private company is likely to raise next, set against a peer set, with an alert such as nine months out.Time since the last disclosed round, and the pattern of rounds in the same sector, are on the graph. The alert is a model on that history.Partial

What someone supplies

FeatureCB InsightsKscope
Non-public dealsThe April 22, 2026 note says the deal lead is fueled by non-public deal data, sourced directly from investors and startups. A round in that book can exist with no press hit.A deal that is sent here and nowhere else is outside the crawl.Beside
Private revenueThe predictive-data page says private-company revenue is rolled into year-by-year estimates, with transparency into where each figure came from. A figure can be one a company gave them, or one their model produced. The page does not split the two.Public-company revenue is extracted. An estimate trained here is our number. A revenue figure a company gives only to them stays theirs.Partial
Cap tablesThe financial-transactions feed includes cap-table history: authorized shares, par value, issuance price, dividend and liquidation terms, certificate-of-incorporation filings, and percentage ownership. They publish no count of companies covered.A certificate of incorporation on a public registry is a crawl. A shareholding that exists only on their page stays theirs. That file is not in the counted graph at a stated scale.Partial
Customer sentimentThe pricing page and the predictive-data page list client satisfaction and intent to renew. They do not name the source.A satisfaction score or a renewal intent that someone reports only to them is outside the filings and the crawl.Beside
Briefings and interviewsThe predictive-data page lists transcripts of analyst briefings and startup customer interviews, with the briefing materials. Those interviews are their file. An earnings-call transcript is the public call, and it is already indexed on its own.Beside
Expert researchWritten market reports, and an analyst who produces one on request. The Q3 2026 venture note is one example, with the full report behind the login. The report text, and an analyst answering on request, stay their service. A sector cut computed on the crawl is a model.Beside
Contact dataThe business-development pitch says to use their contact data for outreach.A name and a role that hit a filing or the crawl are on the person graph. A direct dial or an email that exists only in their contact file stays theirs.Beside
